What CRM means
CRM stands for customer relationship management. It is the software a sales or service team uses to keep every lead and customer, every conversation and every deal in one place, so anyone on the team can see what happened last and what should happen next.
Without one, that knowledge lives in personal phones, WhatsApp chats, inboxes and spreadsheets. Leads get called twice or not at all, follow-ups slip, and nobody can say which marketing spend actually brought in revenue.
What a CRM does
Whatever the brand, most CRMs are built around the same core jobs:
- Contacts and leads. One record per person or company, with where they came from and who owns them.
- A pipeline. Stages a deal moves through, from new enquiry to won or lost, so you can see what is stuck.
- Activity history. Calls, emails, chats, meetings and notes on one timeline per customer.
- Tasks and reminders. The next step for every lead, with a date and an owner.
- Reports. Leads, conversions, revenue and team activity, filtered by source, rep or period.
Types of CRM
CRMs are often grouped into three kinds, though most modern products mix all three:
- Operational CRM runs the day-to-day work: capturing leads, assigning them, logging calls and moving deals.
- Analytical CRM turns that data into answers: conversion rates, forecasts and which channels bring revenue.
- Collaborative CRM shares the customer's story across sales, support and marketing, so nobody asks the customer to repeat themselves.
Signs you need one
- Leads arrive from ads, your website, WhatsApp and marketplaces, and nobody is sure they all got a reply.
- Two reps called the same lead last week, and another lead was never called.
- Your best follow-up notes are in one person's phone.
- You spend on Meta or Google ads and can't say which campaign paid for itself.
- Payments are chased in a separate app, so the pipeline never matches the bank.
What to look for in a CRM in India
The basics matter everywhere. These matter more for teams that sell in India:
- WhatsApp, both ways. The official WhatsApp Business API with templates, and ideally the personal numbers your team already uses, in one shared inbox.
- Calling built in. Click-to-call, recordings and an auto-dialer, with call outcomes logged, plus sync from reps' Android phones.
- Lead sources you actually use. Meta and Google lead ads, IndiaMART, Justdial, website chat and forms, de-duplicated by phone and email.
- Payments inside the deal. Razorpay links with GST, instalments and autopay, so a paid order marks the deal won.
- Ad attribution. Spend joined to revenue per campaign, with conversions sent back to Meta and Google.
- Rupee pricing and GST invoices. A clear per-seat price, billing period and tax, with no surprise add-ons.
- Data protection. Field-level permissions, masked phone numbers and readiness for DPDP and GDPR.
From CRM to growth engine
Most CRMs stop at the pipeline. The CRM holds the deal, while a WhatsApp tool, a dialer, a payment app and an ad tracker each hold a piece of the story.
Supersei is built to run the whole loop in one product: capture every enquiry, convert it while interest is hot with Sei, the AI sales agent, replying on WhatsApp, chat and email in seconds, collect the payment on Razorpay or Stripe, and prove which ad paid for it. That is five tools, the CRM, WhatsApp tool, dialer, ad tracker and payment follow-ups, on one bill in rupees.
How to choose and switch
- Map how leads reach you today, channel by channel, and who follows up on each.
- List the tools you would retire and what each costs per month.
- Try it on real leads. Use a free trial with your own data, not a demo account.
- Import and go live. Bring contacts and deals across, connect WhatsApp and ad accounts, and set up your pipeline stages.
With Supersei, a three-step wizard sets up your team, pipeline stages and custom fields in about five minutes, with presets for SaaS, education and real estate, and the AI maps spreadsheet columns on import. Comparing options? See how Supersei compares with Zoho, HubSpot, LeadSquared and Freshsales.
